Zimbabwe Grand Tour 2019

Overview

If you have traveled with me before, you would know that Zimbabwe is one of my favourite destinations. They are our neighbours and their history is intertwined with the South African history. The people are warm and friendly, and deserve our support to get them back on their feet.

The Zimbabwe landscape is spectacular with waterfalls, lakes, mountains, rivers and wildlife.

So on this tour we try to weave in to the tour a little bit of everything.

Cecil John Rhodes, asked to be buried in the Motobos for a reason. He had farms in the highlands for a reason. The great Zimbabwe ruins is a world heritage site for a reason.

The highest density of elephants in the world is along the Zambezi river. Their parks and wildlife areas are mouthwatering.

Join me in a tour that covers some of the best spots in the country. We travel from south to north and end in Vic falls with a nice holiday feeling.

The Itinerary

Day 1

Our journey start in Francistown Botswana, we meet for our first night, discuss the tour and relax in to our tour.

Day 2

After breakfast we make our way in to Zimbabwe and head towards the Matobos for the night. However, our first stop is the Khami Ruins. These ruins are more modern than the Great Zimbabwe ruins and also very impressive and also a world heritage site. Once done here we head towards the Matobos for the night.

Day 3

We take the morning to visit the Rhodes grave sight at a place called Worlds view. I will give you the history of the area. We also drive around to have a look at the various rock formations that has made this area so famous. After Lunch we set off and head over to Masvingo.

Day 4

After breakfast we set off to visit the great Zimbabwe ruins. This is one of the most spectacular sites South of the Sahara. After our visit we set off to Masvingo for shopping and then on to our camp for the night.

Day 5

After breakfast we depart for Lake Kariba. This is the largest man made lake in the world and a very impressive body of water. A little bit of 4×4 driving gets us down to the peninsula where we will relax for the next two nights.

Day 6

Lets slow down and relax for the day. Bring a book or just catch up with some rest. The elephants will be around to entertain us.

Day 7

We make our way out of the park and head towards Binga for the night.

Day 8,9

After breakfast we set off to Hwange town for some shopping. Once we are done, we head towards Hwange National park for two of the most awesome nights you would ever have. We sleep at two picnic sites in Hwange. Access all night to the hides and animal movements.

Day 10

We leave the park late and continue our journey north and head to Victoria falls for two nights.

 Day 11

At this point we deserve an off day. We take a breather next to the lovely Victoria falls and just relax. Visit the falls, do you chopper flights or rafting on this day.

 Day 12

We make our way out of Zimbabwe and head down to Francistown for our last night.

Day 13

We start our journey back to South Africa.

Tour specific comments

Vehicle:

A normal 4×4 with low range as you buy them from the shop floor. No special kit required.

Drivers:

No experience required, I personally guide the tour and will give you everything you need as we go.

Towing:

The only challenging section is in and out of Matusadona lake Kariba, and Manny 4×4 caravans have been to the park. So I would say 4×4 trailers welcome, bush caravans also if you are experienced in towing in off road conditions. If you are not experienced in off road conditions rather leave the vans.

Other:

There is 220V power available from time to time.
