GROOTVOETE (Big feet )2019

Overview

I have seen the Serengeti Wildebeest Migration, I have seen the mountain Gorillas in Uganda. I have seen the Chimps in Kibale and Lions of Ngorogo.

However the thought of getting close to the large African Elephant. The icon of Africa, the king of the bushveld gives me goosebumps.

I have crafted this tour with only one thing in mind, where can we see the best Elephants in Southern Africa.

Obviously this will not only be Elephants as the wild will not yield its secrets until we are there. But the focus is on the Grootvoete.

We will sleep at two of Southern Africas most supreme picnic spots, exclusively for us in Hwange National park. Then we will spend two nights in Vic Falls and do a walk with elephants guided tour to smell and feel these huge mamals. This spectacular experience also included in your package.

Cross in to Botswana and drive the length of the Chobe National park along the river and sleep on the banks of the Linyanti river.

Then down through Savuti where the genetically largest Elephants on earth resides.

Finally down to the Okavango delta area for our last day in the bush. Looking at elephant footprints, understanding what story they tell.

I will take the time and teach you a bit about their behaviour, their social life, their history and their future.

The Itinerary

Day 1. 24 August 2019.

We meet at our campsite near Nata in Botswana for our first night. Nata Lodge has a restaurant which I can recommend.

Day 2.

After breakfast we set off North towards the Pandamatenga border in to Hwange national park for two nights. Our stay in Zimbabwe will be such that fuel and food will not be a problem as we will cover only a short distance in Zimbabwe before we are back in Botswana.

Once we have cleared the border we drive to our first nights exclusive camp at the Matsumo dam in Hwange. Just us for the night, you can sit in the hide as long as you want, for as late as you want.

Day 3.

We have the day to relax, We pack up late and go for a scenic drive in the Northern Hwange area. Arriving at our second exclusive night stop at Deteema dam in Hwange. Again the hide is ours for the night.

Day 4.

We pack up and move North out of Hwange and on to the nearby Victoria Falls. A camp under the trees on the green grass for two nights the falls in flood and the mist just beyond our campsite. This is just the perfect. You may visit the falls or do a chopper flight or just relax.

Day 5.

Today we will do a 2-3 hour guided walk with elephants. Get to know them a little bit closer. The rest of the day you have off for activities of your choice.

Day 6.

Early morning we head for the border. We head in to Botswana, do a bit of shopping and fill up our vehicles.

Then we enter Chobe National park for the rest of the day. We drive the river route from Kasane to Ngoma bridge and out to our nights camp on the Linyanti river banks.

Day 7

We pack up and move south through the Chobe park and Savuti. We stop for lunch in Savuti and see if we can find the legendary massive elephants of the region. We finally arrive in the Okavango Delta area for two nights.

Day 8.

We take a private game drive for the day and have picnic next to one of the Delta rivers, we close our tour off with a lovely relaxing day.

Day 9.

We head for Maun, fill our vehicles, have a Wimpy breakfast and then set off, direction home. You may stay a bit longer if you wished or return via a different road if you are from the Cape. If you are traveling with me, we will sleep close to the RSA border, for our last night.
