What a great tour we had in 2017. If you think this is one of those places you might skip, think again. It is one of the most breathtaking tours in our region.
Driving past Pofadder you see the hills in the distance, but it is only when you turn off and in to those hills that you see the magic of the area.
We start our journey in Kakemas and follow the Orange rivere, we visit the Augrabies falls. Then on to Klein Pella, and the Namaqua 4×4 eco trail. In to the Richtersveld and again an area you would not have experienced before. From there down the west coast where we end in Vredendal. From here, a few days later join me on my Passes and parks tour or finish your holiday in Cape town. Thus not a problem should you want to extend your tour and spend a few days in the mother city or do a few wine tours etc.
The tour is towards the end of the blommetjies so we will see a bit of that magic as well.
Join me for this exciting, breathtaking tour of one of our world heritage sites.
We all make our way to the starting point of our journey. We meet at our overnight accommodation at Kakamas.
After breakfast we head to the Augrabies waterfall. We spend a bit of time at this waterfall and enjoying lunch on the premises. After the visit we continue on the road to Pofadder. Just off the main road at Klein Pella we find our evening accommodation.
We start our backroad journey and hug the Orange River for the day. We camp close to the Orange River for the night. The Spectacular scenery of this area takes up most of our time.
After breakfast we continue our journey and follow the Orange River further west. We exit the 4×4 section near Vioolsdrift. Again we Camp on the river Banks for the night.
We take the tar road and travel via Port Nolloth and Alexander Bay towards the Richtersveld. We stock up with food and fuel before we enter the Richtersveld.
We sleep in the Richtersveld for 3 nights. We spend the two days exploring the area and viewing the magnificent rock formations and geology of the area. Campsite is on the river bank.
After spending a glorious 2 days in the Richtersveld, We leave the park and head back towards Alexander Bay and Port Nolloth. We turn south and travel past Kleinzee, the De Beers diamond mine. We had towards Hondeklip bay for the night. Tonight we will sleep in the Hondeklip Bay accommodation and eat in their restaurant if you don’t feel like cooking.
After breakfast we head South towards the Groenrivier mouth. We enter the park and drive along the beach to our campsite. This area is well known for the Vygie flowers.
Our last full day on the tour we travel further down with the coast passing the Namaqua Sands plant. We accept the coastal route and head towards Vredendal. Lunch in a restaurant, and maybe catch up on some shopping. From here the tour concludes and we all go our separate ways.
