Bluerhino Blast 2020, craft beer and Drakensberg.
The Bluerhino Blast is a end of year celebration and welcoming of summer event. This year we will be traveling down to the Drakensberg for a few days to have some fun.
The idea is to stick with my core business of touring and at the same time introduce a few interesting activities.
Our visit will be to the Free state and KZN sections of the Drakensberg.
Activity options include historical Spioenkop site, tree top tours, helicopter flights, craft beer tasting and sharing.
Bring your caravan or trailer or ground tent. Let’s have some fun.
If you are booked on the trip, you have a vote to nominate a beer I need to brew and bring with for the weekend. I will choose another to bring as well.
If you are a craft brewer please bring some of your own beers for tasting.
We all make our way to the starting point of our journey. We meet at Clarens for lunch. This town is known for their craft beers and restaurants. maybe a quick taste and then on to our camp site at Golden gate National park.
After breakfast the next morning we head to the Cathkin peak area via the Oliviershoek pass. We stop at the Tugela Drakensberg pumped water storage scheme on the way. We will do a 2 hour tour of the facility.
From there on to our camp where we will stay for 3 nights and run most of our activities from here.
The choices of activities are endless. And you could choose anything you want. Pay as you go…
- Golf at Champagne sports
- a Helicopter flight of the berg
- Visit the Drakensberg craft brewery
- Visit the Falcon ridge bird sanctuary.
- Visit the Spioenkop reserve
- Visit the Spioenkop monument.
- Enjoy the Drakensberg canopy tour.
- Visit Dragon rock reptile and Eco park.
All activities within 5 km from our campsite.
In the evening a campfire, a braai and a Bluerhino Lager on tap.
Today I am going to see who wants to do what and we will do the activity. Either from the list above or anything else.
Back for lunch I am going to stop for a beer at the Drakensberg brewery. Some of the best craft beers out there.
In the evening a campfire, a braai and another Bluerhino Beer on tap.
Another day of doing something in the area.
I am going to go for a Tree canopy tour. See what birds are around in the canopy, and just have some fun.
In the afternoon back at camp and maybe a chopper flight in the mountains. I have done this before and it is absolutely super.
In the evening a campfire, a braai and whatever Bluerhino Beer is left on tap.
After breakfast our tour concludes and I head back to JHB
