Gorillas and Serengeti 2022 Itinerary

Day 1. 15 May 2022

17h00 We meet at Kasane for the first night. A restaurant is available for dinner. These guys have the best Pizza in Botswana.

Day 2. 

7h00 Depart from our campsite and make our way to the border.

10h00 We cross in to Zambia, clear the border post and head towards Lusaka. 

To get our timing right we will need to push on a little. We will visit the falls on our way back.

Day 3 

8h30 Depart from our campsite

9h00 Shopping and fuel in Lusaka. Large Pick and pay and coffee shops. We take our coffee here. Exchange cash at mall.

11h00 Depart from Lusaka

14h30 Stop for a coffee break (20 mins )

17h00 Arrive at our campsite Forest inn.

Day 4

8h00 Depart from our campsite and head to the hot spring!!!!! We need a bit of a break.
 
10h30   We stop for coffee
 
13h00  We stop for Lunch
 
16h00.  We arrive at Kapishya hot spring.
 

Day 5

We take a rest day and relax in the hot spring.

Day 6

10h00 Depart from our campsite and head to the border. 

We will sleep just before or just on the other side of the border depending on the road.

Day 7

Depart from our campsite and head to Lake Tanganyika for two nights. 

17h30    Arrive at our campsite on Lake Tanganyika for two nights.

Day 8

We take a rest day on the lake with boat cruises, coffee shop lunches, and a lovely dinner on the lake shore.

Day 9

7h00 Depart from our campsite and head to Kibondo. The road is being tarred and our progress should be good. 

9h00 Stop for a coffee break ( 20 mins )

12h30 Stop for lunch (45 mins )

16h00 We should be in Kibondo just before dark.

Day 10.

 

8h30 Depart from Kibondo and head to Lake Victoria.

10h30 Stop for coffee

13h00 Stop for lunch

17h00 Arrive at our campsite in a town called Kiroyera in Tanzania

Day 11, 

8am We depart from our camp and head to the Uganda Border. We make our way through and head to Lake Mburo.

Day 12, 

8h00 Depart from our campsite and head to the gorilla camp for the next three nights. 

Day 13

We take it easy  for the day and make sure our stuff for the gorillas are arranged. This is also an emergency back up date, if we had any trouble or were delayed up to this point this day will allow us to catch up. Visiting the local coffee farm is a winner if you are interested in how the locals do organic coffee.

Day 14

This is the actual targeted Gorilla day. We visit Bwindi Impenetrable park and trek gorillas for the day.

Day 15

8h00 Depart from our campsite. A nice drive for the day. We head to Elizabeth National park for the night

10h00 We stop for coffee

16h00 Arrive at our campsite Simba camp.

Day 16

9 am. We have a late morning departing to our Fort Portal base for our Chimp trekking. 

We stop in Fort portal for whatever we need. They have a nice coffee shop.

Our camp is 15 minutes outside of town.

Day 17

8h00 We set off for our chimp trekking experience. This will take half the day and we should be back in camp just after lunch. 

In the afternoon you could pop in to Fort Portal for shopping. If the shops are open. We also stay at this lodge for old years eve. It should be the quietest place around, I will tell you the story about noise when we are traveling.

Day 18

8h00 Depart from camp and drive towards Kampala.

10h00 Stop for a coffee break ( 20 mins )

12h30 Stop for lunch (45 mins )

15h00 Arrive at our campsite on the Victoria Nile river. We will be here for three nights

Day 19,20

We take a break for the next two days. Kayak on the Nile, or river cruises, 4 wheel motor bike drive outings, rafting, whatever you feel like doing.

A few nice things to do around. Boat cruises, river kayaking, lunch in the restaurant etc.

Day 21

8h00 Depart from our campsite. 

10h00 We start our border procedure in to Kenya.

13h00 We should be done with our border crossing.

17h00 Arrive at our campsite in Kenya.

Day 22

8h00 We make our way to the border and pass through.

10h00 We enter the Serengeti for 3 nights.

12h00 We stop for lunch. 

16h00 We arrive at our campsite for the night.

Day 23, 24

We are in The Serengeti and will track the Wildebeest and explore the park in these two days.

Day 25

8h00 We pack our stuff and head out of the Serengeti and in to Ngorongoro. We are only transiting and make our way to Karatu town just outside of the Serengeti.

Day 26

If you are keen to do the crater, we will get a group together and visit the crater with a local operator.

Otherwise if you are happy to chill there are many tourist shops in the area.

Day 27

7h00 Depart from camp and drive towards Iringa. It is a new road and we can get down in a day.

11h00 Stop for a coffee break ( 20 mins )

13h00 Stop for lunch (45 mins )

17h30 Arrive at Old farmhouse

Day 28

7h30 Depart from camp and head to Mbeya. We need to do our PCR tests to get in to Malawi.

11h00 Stop for a coffee break ( 20 mins )

13h00 Stop for lunch (45 mins )

14h00 Arrive in Mbeya for our Covid tests.

16h00 We head over to our camp for the night.

Day 29.

8h00 We pack up and collect our test results.

11h00 We cross in to Malawi

15h00 Arrive at Chitimba campsite Malawi, The group should be tired and we will spend two nights here.

Day 30 

Off day. Carlsberg beers on the Malawi beach. Swim in the lake, eat restaurant food, CHILL……

Day 31

8h00 Depart from our campsite. We follow the lake edge further south.

10h00 Stop for shopping Shoprite

11h00 Depart Mzuzu town

13h30 Stop for lunch.

15h00 Arrive at Chipata and head in to Zambia. We sleep at Mama Rula just outside Chipata,

Day 32

7h00 Depart from our campsite.

We head to Lusaka for the Night. Own speed and own time.

Day 33

Our final stretch in Zambia and we push down to Livingstone for the night. We should be in Livingstone at about 2pm.

We do our Covid tests and then have the afternoon to explore.

Day 34, 17 June 2022

We head through the border and make our way to South Africa. 

We will work out who sleeps where as we go. Your Covid test is valid for 3 days if you want to get in to RSA with the test.
