Uganda 2019 Itinerary

Day 1. 15 Dec 2019

17h00 We meet at Kasane for the first night. A restaurant is available for dinner. These guys have the best Pizza in Botswana.

Day 2. 16 Dec

8h00 Depart from our campsite and make our way to the border.

10h30 We cross in to Zambia, clear the border post and head towards Lusaka. We will stop in Livingstone on our way back if you wanted to do something here.

Today however we push for Lusaka

Day 3 

8h30 Depart from our campsite

9h00 Shopping and fuel in Lusaka. Large Pick and pay and coffee shops. We take our coffee here. Exchange cash at mall.

11h30 Depart from Lusaka

14h30 Stop for a coffee break (20 mins )

17h00 Arrive at our campsite Forest inn.

Day 4

8h00 Depart from our campsite and head to the hot spring!!!!! We need a bit of a break.
 
10h30   We stop for coffee
 
13h00  We stop for Lunch
 
16h00.  We arrive at Kapishya hot spring.
 

Day 5

9h00 We depart from our campsite and head up to Lake Tanganyika. 

11h30    Stop for lunch (45 mins )

16h30    Arrive at our campsite Isanga Bay Lodge Tanganyika

Day 6

We take a rest day and enjoy the luxuries of the lodge.

Day 7

7h30 Depart from our campsite. 

10h00 We start our border procedure

11h00 Complete crossing, pay bill and change money.

13h00 Stop for lunch (45 mins )

15h00 Stop for a coffee break (20 mins )

17h30    Arrive at our campsite Riverside camp just ouside Katavi park

Day 8

8am We make our way further north, stop for fuel and coffee stops. A beautifull winding gravel road through the forest. We head for Kigoma town on the banks of Tanganyika. Jakobsen beach camp.

Day 9

6h00 Depart from our campsite

9h00 Stop for a coffee break ( 20 mins )

12h30 Stop for lunch (45 mins )

15h00 Start border procedures in to Rwanda with a bit of luck.

18h00 Arrive at our campsite, just inside Rwanda

Day 10, 24 December 2019.

 

8h30 Depart from our campsite

10h30 Arrive in Kigali and visit the Genocide Museum. We also stop in town for some groceries as needed.

14h00 We depart for our camp for the evening.

17h00 Arrive at our campsite, Red rocks.

Day 11, 25 December 2019

We take a well deserved break for the day. Catch up with what needs to be done. We enjoy Christmas day. You could go for a drive or just relax, catch up with a bit of washing etc.

Day 12

8h00 Depart from our campsite. 

10h00 We start our border procedure in to Uganda.

13h00 We should be done with our border crossing.

15h00 Arrive at our campsite in Uganda, Lake Mutanda, Uganda. Our camp for 3 nights.

Day 13

We take it easy  for the day and make sure our stuff for the gorillas are arranged. This is also an emergency back up date, if we had any trouble or were delayed up to this point this day will allow us to catch up. Visiting the local coffee farm is a winner if you are interested in how the locals do organic coffee.

Day 14, 28 December

This is the actual targeted Gorilla day. We visit Bwindi Impenetrable park and trek gorillas for the day.

Day 15

8h00 Depart from our campsite. A nice drive for the day.

10h00 We stop for coffee

17h00 Arrive at our campsite just outside of Fort portal. We drive through the Queen Elizabeth national park on our way to Fort portal. I have added this section in exchange for the extra night in Kenya, we do not need that night anymore, it was there to make traveling easier.

Day 16, 

am. We have a late morning departing to CVK our base for the chimps. 

We stop in Fort portal for whatever we need. Our camp is 15 minutes outside of town.

Day 17, 31 December

8h00 We set off for our chimp trekking experience. This will take half the day and we should be back in camp just after lunch. 

In the afternoon you could pop in to Fort Portal for shopping. If the shops are open. We also stay at this lodge for old years eve. It should be the quietest place around, I will tell you the story about noise when we are traveling.

Day 18, 1 Jan 2020

8h00 Depart from camp and drive towards Kampala.

10h00 Stop for a coffee break ( 20 mins )

12h30 Stop for lunch (45 mins )

15h00 Arrive at our campsite on the Victoria Nile river. We will be here for two nights

Day 19

We take a break for the next two days. Kayak on the Nile, or river cruises, 4 wheel drive outings rafting, whatever you feel like doing.

A few nice things to do around. Boat cruises, river kayaking, lunch in the restaurant etc.

Day 20

We continue to relax a bit.

Day 21.

8h00 Depart from our campsite. 

10h00 We start our border procedure in to Kenya.

13h00 We should be done with our border crossing.

17h00 Arrive at our campsite for two nights near Nakuru.

Day 22

8h00 Depart from our campsite. 

10h00 We start our border procedure in to Tanzania.

13h00 We should be done with our border crossing.

We head to Arusha for some shopping and then on to our camp site. Snake park just outside of Arusha.

Day 23, 6 Jan 2020

We will have a late morning. departure and allow time for shopping and vehicle repairs if needed.

12h00 We depart from Arusha

We visit the many tourist shops en route to Karatu, It is a 2 hour drive that will take us about 5 with all the shops….

17h00 Arrive at our campsite in Karatu, just outside of Ngorogoro, Flamingo lodge. 

Day 24

7h00    For those interested, we rent a game view vehicle with drivers and we enter the Ngorogoro area. Bring an extra memory stick for your camera.

Coffee stops and lunch stops in the park as time allows.

17h00 We exit and head back to Flamingo lodge.

Day 25

9h00 Depart from camp and drive towards Iringa. It is a new road and we can get down in a day.

11h00 Stop for a coffee break ( 20 mins )

13h00 Stop for lunch (45 mins )

17h30 Arrive at Old farmhouse

Day 26

7h30 Depart from camp and head to Malawi.

11h00 Stop for a coffee break ( 20 mins )

13h00 Stop for lunch (45 mins )

14h00 Arrive at Malawi border and start our proceedings.

18h00 Arrive at Chitimba campsite Malawi, The group should be tired and we will spend two nights here.

Day 27, 10 January

Off day. Carlsberg beers on the Malawi beach. Swim in the lake, eat restaurant food, CHILL……

Day 28

8h00 Depart from our campsite. We follow the lake edge further south.

10h00 Stop for shopping Shoprite

11h00 Depart Mzuzu town

13h30 Stop for lunch.

15h00 Arrive at Chipata and head in to Zambia. We sleep at Mama Rula just outside Chipata,

Day 29

7h00 Depart from our campsite.

We head to Lusaka for the Night. Own speed and own time.

Day 30

Our final stretch in Zambia and we push down to Livingstone for the night. We should be in Livingstone at about 2pm. 

My feeling is that most of the group would want to get back to RSA so I would suggest pushing through the border and sleep in Kasane for the night. If you want to do the falls you could do it by staying back for the night. I will tell you where to stay and give you your cash for camping for the night. Let’s see what the feeling is when we get there.

This will be our last night on tour.

Day 31, 14 Jan 2020

I will depart at first light to get as far as I can back to Johannesburg
