Namaqualand flowers and 50 Passes 2024 Itinerary

Day 1, 23 August 2024

17h00 We meet at Modderfontein guest farm outside Springbok for our first night.  

Day 2, 

9h00 We break up camp and head off to the Namaqua national park and drive through the park for the day. We will do a coffee stop around 10h30 and a lunch stop around 1pm. Bring your snacks or biltong, camera and walking shoes. Walking amongst the flowers is what is required to appreciate them.

Ultimately we will end up in the Namaqua coastal section where our camp is for night 2. Kwass se Baai. We will pass the seals and drive the sandy coastal section.

17h00 Arrive at our campsite.

This night has a clean long drop but no water or showers. It could also be windy so bring a meal that is easy to heat up if the weather is unpleasant. We might be in our tents early.

Day 3.

8h30 Depart from our campsite and continue down the coast line for an hour. Once out of the park we will head inland towards the N7. 

10h30 Stop for a coffee break 

We head to Niewoudtville. Normally some of the best flowers around. We take a bit of time and explore the area.

We sleep at a campsite called Brandkop.

Day 4

9h00 Depart from our campsite and using the backroads we make our way to the coastal section.

This should also be a good flowers day as we visit the hotspots on our way.

Our campsite for the night is Vensterklip near Elandsbaai.

Day 5,

We have a short day with a easy morning and explore the area, reacting on reports of sightings. 

We finally end up at Yzerfontein for the night.

Day 6,

We turn towards the Cederberg mountains via Malmesbury area and see what there is around the area as we go.

Maybe a roosterkoek at Piketberg for lunch.

We finally end up on the Cederberg wine farm if you wanted a bit of wine tasting.

This concludes the Namaqualand section of the tour.

Our last night is at Sanddrift campsite on the Cerderberg wine farm.

Day 1, 50 Passes, 29 August 2024

Make your way to the Sanddrift campsite, you will find me there on my rest day after the Flowers tour

Day 2,

9am We start our journey heading towards the Wellington region. We do this by driving down towards Clan William and then left on the N7 towards Citrusdal. Then left on the R303 heading Ceres, and finally down to Tulbagh and Wellington.

The day is designed not to bee too long and in the wellington area you can go for a meal or wine tasting or Olive tasting in Riebeeck Wes at Het Vlok wines.

We sleep at Fish Eagle river camp

Day 3

9h00 Depart from our campsite.

Another 8 passes for the day. Two big ones today. First Bain’s Kloof and then du Toits kloof.

Then on to Robertson and Ashton.

We ultimately find ourselves at the Bontebok national park for the night.

Again not expecting to be very late and maybe a bit of time for a drive around.

Coffee and lunch stops as required.

Day 4

8h30 Depart from our campsite and head towards Barrydale for breakfast.

Then north to the Towerkop nature reserve area where we do the Sewe weeks poort pass in, and make a U turn and out again.

From here towards Calitzdorp for  our campsite for the night at Kruisrivier.

Day 5

8h00 An early start for a big day. We drive to Prince Albert via the Swartberg pass, have something to eat and then continue south via Meieringspoort. In Oudtshoorn we turn left toward George and entertain ourselves with the Montagu pass before arriving at our campsite near George.

Ebb and Flow camp Sanparks

Day 6, 

8h00 A fairly long day past Knysna up with the Prince Alfred pass heading to the entrance of Baviaans.

Our campsite is Uitspan camp.

Day 7,

8h30. We do the entire Baviaanskloof from West to East.

We end up near Patensie at Kudu Kaya camp site.

Day 8,

8h00 We head over to ADDO National park and enter the park. after stopping for groceries. 

In the park we visit the Northern section and sleep for our last night at Mvubu camp site. It is a bit rustic but it should be quiet.

Day 9, 6 September 2024

We head for the Bedrogfontein 4×4 ECO route starts. See the notes in the dashboard. If the route is closed we will head out at the Kirkwood gate in the South.

However if the route is open: The route will take about 6 hours to complete and we will stop for coffee and lunch as required. 

The route will drop us near Darlington dam from where we exit the park.

Our tour should be done by about 2pm. Closest town Waterford.

We say our farewells and head in our own directions. 

I am heading to Cradock for the night if you wanted to join me. All depending on the Bedrogsfontein route being open or not.
