Namaqualand flowers and Baviaans 2020 Itinerary
Day 1, 2 September 2020
17h00 We meet at Modderfontein guest farm outside Springbok for our first night.
9h00 After breakfast we depart from our campsite and make our way to where ever the reports are of the best flowers in the regeon. The locals and forums will guide us closer to the time.
We stop for coffee stops and photography during the day and take all kinds of little back roads for the best views. Bring your walking shoes and camera, coffee mug and snacks.
The possibilities will vary from Namaqua national park to Nababeep, Steinkopf, or where ever we need to go.
16h30 Arrive back at our campsite, same as night 1.
9h00 We break up camp and head off to the Namaqua national park and drive through the park for the day. Again coffee stops and lunch stop. Bring your snacks or biltong camera and walking shoes. Walking amongst the flowers is really required to appreciate them.
Ultimately we will end up in the Namaqua coastal section where our camp is for night 3. Kwass se Baai. We will pass the seals and drive the sandy coastal section.
16h30 Arrive at our campsite.
This night has a clean long drop but no water or showers. It could also be windy so bring a meal that is easy to heat up if the weather is unpleasant. We might be in our tents early.
8h30 Depart from our campsite and continue down the coast line for an hour. Once out of the park we will head inland towards the N7.
10h30 Stop for a coffee break
12h30 Stop for lunch and shopping in Vredendal or van Rhynsdorp or Clanwilliam, depending on the route we choose. We might stick closer to the coast depending on reports.
16h00 Arrive at our campsite Sanddrift holiday resort for two nights.
9h00 Depart from our campsite and go for a drive. there should be nice flower areas a bit of mountain passes and just exploratory roads in the area.
We are also on the Cederberg wine farm and if you wanted a bit of wine tasting or just relax around camp or only do half a day, your are welcome.
We stop for coffee and lunch as required.
We sleep at Sanddrift for the second night.
This concludes the Namaqualand section of the tour.
Day 6, 7 September 2020
9am We make our way East to the Karoo National park.
We cross from the green Cederberg area over to the dry region. This is just a traveling day and if we are in Karoo National park early we could do a game drive in the afternoon.
I hope to be in camp by about 2-3pm and then a game drive.
This will also be the start of the Baviaans Hell trail.
10h00 Depart from our campsite means you could do a early morning game drive. We have about 200km to The Hell for the day so not too much pressure.
We stop for lunch on the road and head down the well known road in to the Hell.
We should be in camp around 4-5pm
Coffee and lunch stops as required.
9h00 Depart from our campsite and head back out of the Hell. One road in and the same road out. We cross over to the Baviaans section and head for our camp just before the entrance. Uitspan campsite.
We drive the Baviaans for the day, Coffee stops lunch and all the nice relaxed scenic stuff you would expect. We exit on our way to Patensie and sleep at a campsite just as we exit. Bruintjieskraal.
9h00 We head over to ADDO National park and enter the park. after stopping for groceries. Once in the park we will go for a game viewing drive for the day.
17h00 We head to ADDO main camp for the night.
We head for the Kirkwood ADDO gate where the Bedrogfontein 4×4 ECO route starts. We want to be at the gate when it opens, it is normally 8am. The route will take about 6 hours to complete and we will stop for coffee and lunch as required.
Once we are out of the park we have a 200km drive to Mountain Zebra national park for our last night.
Day 12, 13 September.
First light, as the gates open, I head back to Johannesburg.
