Serengeti May 2021 Itinerary

15 May 2021, Day 1

We meet at Nata for the first night. A restaurant is available for dinner. I will likely only arrive a bit late. 

Day 2

7h00 Depart from our campsite and make our way to the border.

It is about a 3 hour drive. We fill up in Botswana and then we cross in to Zambia, clear the border post and head towards Livingstone.

13h00 We arrive in Livingstone.

You have the afternoon for visiting the falls or whatever you want to do.

Day 3

10ho0 We depart north and head North to Lusaka for our camp for the night.

17h00 Arrive at our campsite in Lusaka

Day 4

8h30 Depart from our campsite

9h00 Shopping and fuel in Lusaka. Large Pick and pay and coffee shops.

Exchange cash at mall.

10h00 Depart from Lusaka

14h30 Stop for a coffee break (20 mins )

17h00 Arrive at our campsite Forest inn.

Day 5

8h00 Depart from our campsite 

10h00 Stop for a coffee break ( 30 mins )

12h30    Stop for lunch (45 mins )

16h30    Arrive at our campsite Kapisha. Kapisha has a lovely hot spring, walks, restaurant, bar or just relaxing. Rest the tired body.

Day 6

We have a rest day. Relax in the hot spring, sit around and read a book, Or you can visit the Shiwa house / Africa house if you are a Historian person.

Lets do a braai, with pap and sous? I will provide pap and sous.

Day 7

9h00      Depart from our campsite. We are heading to the Tanzania border today, However the road is being repaired and we don’t know in what state it is. 

11h00    Stop for coffee

13h00 Stop for lunch

17h00    Arrive at our campsite.

Day 8

We have a 6am departure to get to the border.

8h00 We cross in to Tanzania. We pay our crossing bill and we change money to have cash for fuel.

16h00    Arrive at our campsite at Lake Tanganyika

Day 9/10

We will spend 3 nights at Lake Tanganyika. This will replace our Malawi experience in a safer way. The lodge has boat cruises, coffee shop, and it will be a great few days to relax.

Day 11

7h30 An early depart as we head north towards Tabora.

10h00 Stop for a coffee break ( 20 mins )

12h30 Stop for lunch (45 mins )

15h00 Stop for a coffee break (20 mins )

17h00 Arrive at our hotel for the night

Day 12

7h30 Depart from our hotel

10h00 Stop for a coffee break ( 20 mins )

12h30 Stop for lunch (45 mins )

16h00 We arrive in Mwanza and stay at a resort on the beach of Lake Victoria.

Day 13

The two driving days earns us a rest. On the agenda is to visit the town and stock up on some shopping just before we enter the Serengeti

Day 14

8h00 Depart from our campsite. 

10h00 We arrive at the Serengeti and get the paperwork done.

13h00 We stop for coffee in the park.

15h00 Arrive at our campsite in the Serengeti. Our camp for 4 nights.

Day 15,16,17

We drive the expanses of the Serengeti and search for the wildebeest. It normally does not take too long to find them.

On day two we do more wildebeest or visit other areas of the park, all depending on our wildebeest search.

On day 3 we have time for a hot air balloon safari if you wanted.

Day 18

7h00 Depart from our campsite. 

9h00 We exit the Serengeti and enter the Ngorogoro crater concervation

12h00 We enter the crater and spend the afternoon in the crater

17h00 Arrive at our campsite Simba A camp just on the rim of the crater for the night.

Day 19

7h00 Depart from our campsite. 

9h00 We exit the crater area and head to Arusha.

We visit the Masai shops on our way.

We arrive just short of Arusha for two nights.

Day 20

In Arusha a bit of shopping and something to eat, we also service and fix vehicles as needed. There is a Toyota in Arusha.

Day 21

7h30 Restocked and ready we head towards the coastline. If we are lucky we will see Killimanjaro.

It is a bit of a long day as there are no other campsites along the road. We arrive at our camp in Bagamoya.

Day 22

We take an off day in Bagamoya

Day 23

9h00 Depart from our campsite and make our way in to Dar es Salaam.

A short hop so no real issues.

We stop for groceries on our way.

We sleep in Dar es Salaam almost on the beach

Day 24

5h00    For those interested, we Set off for the Zanzibar ferry. We leave our vehicles at the campsite in Dar for our island break.

We do the 2 hour ride and arrive in Zanzibar, just in time for breakfast. Then to your room for a shower and relax.

13h00 We depart for the best spice tour you would have ever experienced

18h00 back for drinks and dinner.

Day 25

8h00 Breakfast at our hotel.

9h00 Of to the tour of: Stonetown, the museum, market, slave market and some shopping.

12h00 Lunch at the English club

14h30 Back on the ferry to go to Dar.

18h00 Back at our campsite.

Day 26

7h00 Depart from our campsite and out towards Iringa

11h00 Stop for a coffee break ( 20 mins )

13h00 Stop for lunch (45 mins )

16h00 Arrive at Old farmhouse campsite

Day 27

8h00 Depart from camp and drive towards Mbeya.

11h00 Stop for a coffee break ( 20 mins )

13h00 Stop for lunch (45 mins )

14h00 Arrive at Zambia Border and start our proceedings.

17h00 Arrive at our campsite for the night back in Zambia.

Day 28

9hoo We head back to Kapishya for the night. 

Day 29

9h00 we head out to Banguelu national park for two nights.

Day 30

A day to relax or explore Banguelu national park. The park with the Shoebill stork and Black Lechwe.

Day 31

We start our journey towards Livingstone and we will manage campsites as the day unfolds.

7h00 Depart from camp and drive towards Lusaka. A long day.  

10h00 Stop for a coffee break ( 20 mins )

13h00 Stop for lunch (45 mins )

17h00 We will see how far we can get.

I will choose a campsite depending on our progress.

Day 32

Depart from our campsite and head further towards Livingstone.

Arrive in Livingstone we do our PCR tests as soon as we can and wait for the results. Likely to take 24 to 48 hours. So we have more time to explore.

We take the time to conclude the tour and strategise our exit.

Day 33/34

As soon as my PCR results are in, I head back home.
