Botswana Blitz 2022, Mkgadigadi & Okavango Delta, Savuti, Chobe.

Overview

South to North, the biggest attractions in Botswana

This tour is an old favourite and one I have done most of all my tours. It will suit you if you are just getting in to safaris and also if you have been traveling for a while.

Botswana Blitz is one of those tours that captures the heart of Botswana in a few days. It is one of the areas in the world where the country is still very open to animal migration. No fences, no interference and wild.

Our tour aims to experience the contrast of the Mkgadigadi pans, with its moon scape and the very strange Kubu Island, with the wet Okavango Delta, that seems so out of season. Then on to the iconic Savuti and finally Chobe National park. We end near the Victoria falls and it would give you the option to visit the falls with an easy transfer service.

Many people start their safari experience with this tour as it is not too long and covers some of the best wilderness areas in the world.

Your experience would include driving on the worlds largest combined salt flat, riding on a boat on the very unique inland delta. Sit under the stars around a the camp fire at night and experience the bush noises. Seeing the largest Elephants on the planet.

On the tour we will discuss various 4×4 theories to help familiarise yourself with the terrain and interesting 4×4 information. We also discuss the history of the area as well as its fauna and flora.

It is Magical!

The rough itinerary

Day 1

I make an early departure and head out to the Botswana Border. Meet me on the road or in camp.  Tonight we will sleep at the legendary Khama Rhino Sanctuary. I will arrive at Khama Rhino at about 5pm when our tour officially starts.

Day 2

After breakfast we set off to Lekhubu Island. This is an experience to remember. If you have not been there, it is time to go! We spend the night at the island. We drive on the Mkgadigadi pans and climb on to the granite rocks at Kubu Island. A night here, is a night to remember.

We stop in Lethlakane for fuel, next to a Nando’s. If you want to grab a takeaway for lunch. 30 mins later we stop next to the road for lunch. I will provide the hot water for all coffee stops during the day.  I will boil a kettle for coffee, you bring your coffee, tea, milk and sugar and cup and enjoy a good cuppa.

We will arrive in camp at around 4pm. Enough time to go for a stroll around the granites, taking a few pictures and enjoying the sunset.

Day 3

We leave the island a bit later than normal and we cross the Makgadigadi pans.

At Chapmans baobab we stop for a brunch stop. Bring your own snacks and lunch, I will provide the hot water.

We arrive in Maun at about 4pm.

Tonight dinner in the restaurant is an option, and it is a good restaurant!

Day 4

The next morning we set off to the Okavango Delta. Those looking for a scenic flight will do it early in the morning.

There is a Wimpy in town if you feel like a Wimpy breakfast.

After the flight and after shaking right our feathers, at about 10am we depart for the Delta.

We arrive in camp and set up our camp. Then a game drive in a concession area in the afternoon, we are looking for the Santawani pride of lions. We drive around in a private area with talks on the area and the animals.

We will be back in camp at about 5pm

Day 5

This is a long but exciting day. We head out to do a boat ride on the Delta.

We leave early so do what you like best as an early breakfast. Rusks and coffee, or Yogurt and muesli anything quick.

At the boat station we pack our stuff and head out for a few hours. Whilst we are deep in the heart of the Delta we will stop on an Island for lunch.

After our excursion we head back to camp.

Day 6

Another relaxed game viewing day, again inside the Moremi. We visit the Blackpool area. This area is normally rich in birdlife and the famous Xini pride of Lions.

We stop for coffee and lunches during the day.

Once we are done we head back to camp.

Day 7

We head north and travel through some of the most iconic landscape in Botswana, the Savuti. Home to the largest elephants on the planet, this includes the legendary Savuti sand ridge road.

We stop for lunch at the Savuti pans before heading further north to our campsite, overlooking the Linyante swamp area.

Day 8

After breakfast we enter the Chobe park area and drive the river road section for the day, Picnic stops and Lunch at Serondela, one of the best drives in Botswana.

We arrive in camp for the night. A great restaurant with the best Pizzas in Botswana if you like.

Day 9

Our tour is over and I make my way back to Johannesburg in the morning.

From this point you are on your own. However I will help with your planning and arrangements if you wanted to visit Victoria falls with any of the tour operators that goes to the falls for the day. It is easy and you leave your vehicle in camp for the day.
