Skeleton coast PLUS PLUS 2021

Overview

This tour is one of those that you always hear of but never do. It is that tour that someone has talked about, and you thought “ag ja I don’t think I will ever do it…”

Well here is your opportunity. Namibian highlights, bottom to top including the breathtaking Skeleton coast. Join me for this exciting, breathtaking tour of one of the most exclusive areas in our region.

Broken in to three sections to make it easier to fit your budget.

Southern Namibia with Sossusvlei, Sesriem, Kolmanskop and Fish river canyon is always a hit.

Central Namibia with Swakkopmund, Spitskoppe and Damaraland, Palmwag and the hot spring.

And then the big one, Skeleton coast concession area with the concession holders, catered for 6 nights is super special.

The Blue route

Section 1: Southern Namibia

Day 1.

We arrive from Mata Mata after our Kgalagadi experience. We spend the night at the Fish river canyon. Enough time tonight or in the morning to go for a drive and view this magnificent structure.

Day 2.

After breakfast and after you had the time to visit the canyon we head north towards our camp for two nights. This lovely camp is situated in the wild Namibian stallion area.

Day 3.

We depart from our camp and head towards Luderitz for the day.

Our first stop is a Kolmanskop guided tour through the fascinating history of this spectacular town. Did you know they produced their own ice with water shipped in from Cape town? A wonderful photography opportunity in this ghost mining town.

Day 4.

After breakfast we start our journey north. We hug the Namib desert as we make our way to Sesriem. The town named after the depth of their canyon.

Day 5.

We take the day to drive in to the Sossusvlei park. we visit the vlei and for those interested you can climb a dune. On the way out we stop at Sesriem canyon and then back to camp. Here we take a shower and dress up for a wonderfull dinner at the local lodge to close this section of the tour. This one you will love, top notch.

Day 6.

If you only booked the blue route you will head home from here. 

The Red route

Section 1: Central Namibia

Day 1.

We arrive from Sesriem traveling through Solitair and the backroads of this area. We end up at Swakopmund at a very nice camp with a very nice restaurant. We will sleep here for two nights.

Day 2.

The purpose of this day is for those traveling in for the Skeleton coast tour to take a breather and shake their feathers.

For the rest it is a maintenance day to make sure your vehicle is in good order.

For the other rest we explore the area for the day. Have a bit of a holiday day. We do some shopping, have a meal in a coffee shop and whatever else you need to do.

Day 3.

After breakfast we depart to Spitzkoppe. We sleep in this wonderfull naturally sculptured spot and enjoy the night sky.

Day 4.

After breakafst we travel further north and head to our camp Palmwag. 2 nights in this luxury camp is going to be what the doctor ordered.

Day 5.

We have a full day in this consession housing some of the large animals of Africa. Restaurant meals and a bit of holiday is perfect for this day. We will go out on a self drive tour for the morning and have coffee in the veld.

Our return in the afternoon for a relaxing campfire and a glass of wine.

Day 6.

We continue our northern move and head towards the town of Sesfontein. We make sure we have our vehicles filled with fuel, we visit the fort for lunch and then to our campsite at the “hotspring” for the night.

Day 7.

If you are ending your tour here you could travel back to Palmwag and on to Etosha for a few nights. The rest of us start our move to Purros for our Skeleton coast tour.

 

The Golden Luxury route
( breakfast and dinners included)

Section 3: Skeleton coast

Day 1.

We arrive at Phuros from Palmwag. This is where our “Skeleton Coast Adventure Tour” begins. We meet our hosts, ” the concession holders of the skeleton coast tour” They will take charge of this section of our tour.

We relax for the night before we set of in the morning. Dinner is included in the tour so no need to cook. If you brought your trailer or caravan You will leave it here for the next 3 nights. 

Day 2.

After breakfast, traveling with our hosts, we wind our way down to the coast following the Khumib river, several stops and photo opportunities later we arrive at our camp for the night close the the ocean in the wild.

Day 3.

After breakfast we depart north following this private potion of Skeleton coast all the way to the Kunene River mouth. The border of Namibia with Angola. We camp in the dune camp for two nights. 

Day 4.

With the wind a factor we visit the Kunene mouth in the morning and have a very enjoyable relaxed day at the mouth. As soon as the wind pics up we head for shelter in the campsite. Hot showers and flush toilets on hand. 

Day 5.

After breakfast, we take the day to drive through the dunes in to the Hartman valley where we camp for the night. This valley is just a small mountain range over from the Marienfluss.

It is not a long day as far as distance goes, but we will take a bit of time through the dunes.

Day 6.

After breakfast we make our way down back to Phuros for our last night. Driving a few riverbeds looking for some of the elusive desert animals.

We have dinner in Purros and sleep our last night on tour.

Day 7.

Our hosts say farewell with a coffee and rusks and a quick something to eat before we head back to the tar roads.

Back to Sesfontein for fuel and then we head home.

Tour specific comments

Vehicle:

A normal 4×4 with low range as you buy them from the shop floor. No special kit required.

We will be driving the Skeleton coast and we will have to take care of fuel requirements. You will get all this prep info once you have booked. It is about 800km Purros to Purros

Drivers:

No experience required, I personally guide the tour and will give you everything you need as we go.

Towing:

You may bring your off road trailer, no Caravans.

Remember the Skeleton coast section, 3 nights NO TOWING.

Other:

Maybe a Jerry can or two, but not an issue.
