Meeting date and time:
We will meet at Mountain view campsite in Zastron for our first night.
This will be on 15 Feb 2021. I will be driving from JHB and should arrive at about 5pm.
We will depart from Mountain view the next morning 9h00am
Tour Distance:
From Zastron to Alexanderbay 1400 km
Fuel availability:
Fuel will be available on tour and no long range tanks are required.
Our longest stretch without fuel will be about 420km from Poffadder to Richtersveld gate.
Fuel purchase:
Credit cards will be generally excepted.
Cash:
Cash would not be required but it is always good to have a few Rands on you. I normally suggest the equivalent of one tank of fuel.
Our camp in Vioolsdrift has a restaurant and bar but do not take cards. Bring cash for this stop.
Park fees:
Park fees are included for this tour, However seeing that some people have a Wild card, I will gladly use them to save the group a few Rands. This will help to pay for firewood for the tour. If you don’t have a wild card don’t worry, I will pay your park fees.
Groceries:
We will stop for groceries as is needed. Uppington will be the main stop in the middle of the tour.
Spaza style shops as follows:
- Vioolsdrift day 4 ( very small shop )
- Richtersveld park shop Day 5
Washing:
On this tour you are on your own and washing can be done as we go. Bring your washing line.
Toilets:
Flush toilets most nights, our only rustic night with no facilities is Ramansdrift on the Namaqua 4×4 route……
Showers:
Showers everywhere except for Ramansdrift. Bring a container to cary about 20 litre of water just for in case.
4×4 Driving:
Not too much 4×4 driving.
A little bit on the Namaqua route and then mostly sandy conditions.
I also have all the recovery equipment, no need to bring any along. Just a tyre pump and spade.
Water:
There is water for cooking and cleaning everywhere.
For drinking water we will buy bottled water at the shops as we go.
Weather:
We are in the area during a very pleasant time and summer climate is expected.
